QSO Spectra Data Directories:

Each QSO directory contains the following:
   1) a README.tbl file
   2) one or more directories containing spectra
The README.tbl file summarizes the directory contents and the files within them. The directories correspond to the date the QSO was observed, and includes the original PI in the directory name. Within each directory is one or more 1-D continuum normalized flux and error files (denoted by _f.fits and _e.fits respectively). Additionally, a preview image of the spectrum is given in .eps and .png formats. Finally, the .dat file gives a listing of each KOAID for the original raw data files that went into the spectral coadd.

HIRedux Data Directories:

Each observing run (one or more contiguous nights at Keck) contains a directory structure imposed by the HIRedux data reduction software ( http://www.ucolick.org/~xavier/HIRedux ). Note that the Raw data directory is empty to save space, so users wishing to perform their own reductions must re-download the raw data from the KOA. Of particular note is the FSpec directory, which contains the order-by-order co-adds of the data organized by mosaic CCD chip _B.fits, _G.fits, _R.fits). Continua for each echelle order (produced by the hires_conti2d routine) are appended by "c" in their filename, and can be re-input into hires_conti2d for further edits. Note that the filenames in the FSpec directory are what the PI gave them during observing and match the README.tbl "targname" field.

Data Update (June 27, 2016):

The KODIAQ team noticed an issue with the KODIAQ headers. There often is a non-zero value for BZERO, and this can cause a problem with properly reading in the flux and error files in IRAF and python based codes. The BZERO and BSCALE header keywords have been stripped from the FITS files. All other content is unchanged.

DR2 Release (July 26, 2017):

The Second Data release of KODIAQ is made public. DR2 contains 130 new QSOs, increasing the number of individual quasars to 300, and contains HIRES data from 1995-2012. The directory structure and file naming convention remains the same. The README files also remain the same, but have an additional QA flag entry possibility: 'tb' or 'tr' which indicate that the spectrum has been trimmed on the blue or red wavelength end to remove poorly extracted data. files with these flags will have smaller total wavelength coverage than the KOA search database may indicate. All data between 1995 and 2004 were obtained with the single chip configuration of HIRES.
